Serge Baudo Conductor
After establishing himself as a conductor in 1959, Serge Baudo was chosen in 1962 by Herbert von Karajan to conduct Pelléas et Mélisande at La Scala, Milan. For more than 10 years Gabriel Dussurjet entrusted Baudo with numerous productions at the Aix en Provence Festival, in repertoire ranging from Mozart to Debussy.

Serge Baudo`s first major appointment was that of permanent conductor at the Paris Opera in addition to being the first principal conductor of the newly founded Orchestre de Paris. From 1970 to 1988, he was musical director of the Orchestre National de Lyon. with which he toured China, Japan, Korea, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and the United States. In 1979 Baudo founded the Berlioz Festival in Lyon, contributing to a better understanding of Berlioz` orchestral works as well as of his operas. In 1987 Baudo conducted a production of the complete version of Les Troyens.

In addition, Serge Baudo has guest conducted with many of the world`s most important orchestras and opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Wien, the Concertgebouw, the BBC, The Philharmonia, Wiener Symphoniker, the Moscow and Leningrad Symphonies as well as large orchestras in Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and others. He is permanent guest conductor with the Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra and the orchestras of Prague and Stockholm.

Serge Baudo`s discography is particularly notable, featuring recordings with the London Philharmonic, l`Orchestre de Paris, l`Orchestre National de Lyon and the Prague Symphony. He has recently recorded the Fauré Requiem with the LPO, and a Brahms program with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Serge Baudo has conducted many first performances in both concerts and recordings of works by Messiaen, Dutilleux, Tomasi, Milhaud, Daniel-Lesur and Mihalovici and is a regular interpreter of twentieth century music. Among his future engagements are Salome in Marseille, Samson et Dalila at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and Padmavati at the Opera de Paris-Bastille.
