Svensk Konsertdirektion - Michel Swierczewski

Michel Swierczewski was born in Paris in 1955. After intensive musical studies, he began his conducting career in 1976. Following this initial success, he found himself at the head of various youth orchestras with whom he forged his technique and gained experience directing. This he continued to perfect with Jean-Claude Hartemann in Paris (1979-1981) and Sir Charles Mackerras at the Wiener Hochschule für Musik (1981).

An enthusiast of 20th century music, Michel Swierczewski directed the Ensemble Musique Oblique between 1981 and 1985. From 1983 onwards, his career developed rapidly. He held successively the positions of assistant conductor to Pierre Boulez at the Ensemble Intercontemporain (1983-1985), to Claudio Abbado at La Scala (1985-1986), and finally to Georges Prêtre at the Paris Opera (1986).

Since 1991, he is principal conductor of the "Series Lyriques et Musicales" of the Compiègne Imperial Theater for which he has already directed Gustave III (Auber-1991), Christophe Colomb (Milhaud-1992), Le Déserteur (Monsigny-1993) and Une Education Manquée (Chabrier-1993). The recording of Gustave III has been awarded the "Prix Massenet de I'Académie du Disque Lyrique". For the official inauguration of the Channel Tunnel, he has conducted Ambroise Thomas' Songe d'une Nuit d'Eté.

His very regular working relationships include the Orchestra of Mittel Deutscher Rundfunk (MDR) of Leipzig and the Sinfonia Varsovia.

In France, he has appeared with the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre National de Bordeaux, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique des Pays de Loire and abroad, among others, La Scala, RAI of Turin, Sarrebruck Radio, Nord Deutscher Rundfunk, Berliner Sinfonie Orchester, Budapest Radio, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Basel Radio etc... His recent debuts with Stockholm Royal Philharmonic and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestras have been highly successful and followed by immediate reinvitations for concerts and recordings.

Michel Swierczewski's recordings with the Gulbenkian Orchestra produced first by Adès and then Nimbus Records are internationally acclaimed and won several awards (Grand Prix de I'Académie du Disque Francais, Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, Classique d'Or RTL and Sunday Times Record of the Year).

Next season will include his debuts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, concerts at the Musikverein in Vienna, the New Year's Concert with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Gurrelieder of Schoenberg in Berlin and Leipzig. It will also mark the beginning of a long term and intensive recording collaboration with BIS, the most prestigious Scandinavian recording company.
